I have to admit, I’m not really a breakfast person anymore. I belong to the club of just coffee drinkers in the morning.
But if we have sourdough bread at home and fresh eggs from our neighbour’s chickens … Well, who can say no to scrumptious breakfast eggs in a hole dish.

I like this breakfast dish especially on lazy Sunday mornings ideally paired with some yummy waffles or pancakes for the sweet part afterwards.
By the way, if you don’t have a wafflemaker, check out my post on how to make waffles without a waffle iron.
Another great match with our breakfast eggs in a hole would be my skillet potatoes with onion dish.

Easy And Delicious Breakfast Eggs In A Hole
Breakfast Eggs in a Hole
Equipment
- A knife (to cut bread slices)
- A cookie-cutter
- A large frying pan
- A pair of tongs
Ingredients
- 2 slices bread
- 2 eggs (preferably free-range)
- vegetable oil
- some butter
- salt and pepper
Instructions
- Cut two thick slices of sourdough bread.
- With a cookie-cutter cut out a hole in each of the slices
- Heat up some oil and butter on medium heat in a large frying pan.
- Once the oil/butter is hot, place the bread slices and the cutout bread into the pan.
- Fry until golden brown on one side.
- Flip them over, carefully crack the eggs and put one egg in each bread hole.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Place on a lid so the eggs can cook through.
- Check after a few minutes, if the egg white has set.
- If not put the lid on again.
- The eggs are cooked once the egg whites have set. It should take around 5 minutes. I do like the egg yolk runny. Just cook them to your liking.
- Serve on a plate and garnish with some parsley or chives.
- Enjoy!
